Things We Have Been Involved With

For the last several months we have been converting our previously loved (and honestly sometimes not so loved) books and DVDs into new books and DVDs. The 2 websites below allow us to list the books and DVDs we no longer want and have people request them. We mail them to the peole and earn credits with which we request new books and DVDs. Even better, the credits can be transfered across sites so that most of our book credits have become DVDs. It is free to sign up and you would be surprised what you can find.

Paper Back Swap Swap A DVD

Both Dan and Nick work in the kitchen at Yaddo, an artist's colony in Saratoga Springs. Departing artists will often leave mementos or souvenirs for the kitchen staff.  The walls are covered with cards and sketches that have been collected over the decades. Back in 2008, Massachusetts-based animator Luke Jaeger left a handmade flip book as a thank-you for the people of Yaddo. With his permission, we turned his illustrated notepad into a short film and attached it to our website.

Despite the late start (we had frost on June 2nd) our crops are doing well. Dan is standing among the potatoes we are trialing for Moose Tubers. They are planted on 2 C-shaped raised beds in the front yard. Near the front of the picture you can see some of our salad greens. Don't worry Dan. If you can't find your way back out we will air lift in supplies.

A Self-Help Collective?

Yep. It sounds like an oxymoron but it's not.  We are a group of people who have banded together to make a better life for ourselves, an eclectic group with many interests but one goal, to better the lives of ourselves and others.

We are centered at a farm in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York. We believe in a return to doing what we can ourselves and relying on each other. To this end we have a small farm with many rare-breed chickens, five goats and many gardens.  We are a free range, organic farm.  We also have a sense of humor. Not funny?  O.K., something really funny, by humor pros.

We garden organically but we use state-of-the-art technology to do it. We believe in the power of the family but our family is expanded with members not traditionally considered part of a nuclear family, with members both on and off the actual farm.

We have a thirst for knowledge and hope to be able to enrich your life as we enrich our own. If you like our site, have any comments, questions or suggestions please drop us a line. e-mail
